Oldham County scored six runs in the first and fourth innings en route to a 14-1 victory over Henry County in five innings on Thursday, March 21.
The Colonels started the game strong at the plate to take an early 6-0 lead.
Oldham County loaded the bases through its first three batters before Levi Wade put the Colonels on the board. He sent a ground ball to first and Jaxon Perkins beat the throw home from Jaylan Hortenbury to score.
Daniel Stewart followed with an RBI double to left field to bring in Logan Esdell and Logan Simpson.
The Colonels kept attacking at the plate and Wade scored off a ground out to give Oldham County a 4-0 edge.
Following a walk, Logan Slechter came across home on a passed ball to move the lead out to 5-0. Coen Ball added a run on a wild pitch during the same at-bat to extend the margin to 6-0.
Oldham County kept the momentum and struck out Henry County’s first two batters before completing a ground out to end the frame.
The Wildcats regrouped defensively and allowed just one hit in the top of the second. Wade singled to center field but was left on base after a ground out concluded the inning.
Henry County took advantage of a couple Oldham County miscues in the bottom of the second. Logan Perdue singled to left field and stole second with Isaac Abney at the plate. The Wildcats loaded the bases after a hit by pitch and an error by the Colonels fielding a ground ball. Yet, the Colonels held Henry County off as Wyatt Ward grounded into a fielder’s choice for the final out.
Oldham County got back on the board in the top of the third on an RBI single to center field by Clay Cartledge. His hit brought in Ball, who earned a double to left field on the previous play.
Cartledge put the Colonels ahead 8-0 later in the inning after scoring with Perkins up to bat.
Henry County avoided a shutout with a run in the bottom of the frame. Baylor Nolin started off the inning with a double to center field, and Camden Peyton sent him home three plays later on a fielding error by Oldham County to cut the lead to 8-1.
Perdue capitalized on another Colonel error on the next play before Oldham County recovered and struck out its final batter to leave two Wildcat runners on base.
The Colonels erupted for six more runs in the top of the fourth to boost their lead to double digits.
A double, single and a walk loaded the bases before Grayson Colvin drew a walk to send Wade home for Oldham County’s ninth run of the night.
Logan Osisek chipped in a two-run RBI double to left field on the next play to extend the lead to 11-1.
After a pitching change by the Wildcats, Perkins added another RBI double to bring in Colvin and move the margin to 12-1.
Slechter drew a walk to reload the bases and Simpson was hit by a pitch to send Osisek across home for the Colonels’ fifth run of the frame.
Wade closed out the scoring surge with an RBI single to shortstop to bring the lead out to 14-1.
Henry County was held to a three up, three down bottom of the fourth, but held the Colonels scoreless in the top of the fifth.
However, Oldham County retired the Wildcats in order to end the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Nolin ended with a run and a hit, and Perdue chipped in a hit and a stolen base for Henry County.
Sawyer Yates, Nicholas Bryan and Jonah White earned a strikeout apiece as well.
With the loss, Henry County falls to 0-5 on the season.
