Two nine-year olds playing with a lighter are believed to be the cause of a grass fire that burned more than 100 acres of land near Eminence last week.

Eminence Police Chief Carey Duncan said he received a call reporting a grass fire on Wednesday, March 4, at 2:08 p.m. at Cannon Court in the neighborhood of the Windy Hill Apartments.

Eminence Fire Chief Gary Lucas said when he arrived it was a large grass fire and spreading rapidly. Shifting winds led to a concern that the fire might reach the apartments.
