Seven Henry County High School athletes competed at the AA State Track Meet Friday at the University of Louisville.
Cathryn Fischer, Eddie Jones, Haley Lewis, Morgan Miller, Destany Crawford, Teagan Fish and Connor Finley represented the Wildcat track team in muggy, breezy, drizzly conditions.
Conditions were not favorable for personal records in the hurdle events, discus and pole vault with a stiff breeze blowing into the faces of those competitors and drizzle adding an extra complication to the pole vault.
Crawford ran under 18 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles for the second consecutive week, finishing 16th with a time of 17.95.
Finley, competing in his first state meet, also finished just under 18 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles with an identical time to Crawford — 17.95. Both athletes missed their personal record by less then 0.3 seconds.
Fischer finished 17th in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.99; and 22nd in the long jump with 13-11.
Lewis, the only senior competing for HCHS, finished 18th in the discus throw with 77-09.
Miller finished tied for 16th with a vault of 7-00, while Jones came in 13th with a vault of 10-06.
The 4x400 relay team finished 22nd in 4:35.75, three seconds off their school record time from the regional competition.
“The kids competed valiantly. I think the conditions were not ideal for setting personal records, but these kids represented HCHS very well.
“It’s a positive for us that six of the seven athletes who competed at the state meet will be returning next year.
“I’m very happy for Haley after a long career to finish by competing at the state meet”
