Act on Diabetes Now

-A A +A

On Nov. 17, the KIPDA Rural Diabetes Coalition Henry County Group hosted the educational event “Act on Diabetes Now.”  Guest speakers were Dr. Ramana Chennubhotla , endocrinologist, and Diane Davidson, RN, a certified diabetes educator.  The event was an open forum with time for questions with the doctor and then a “what will we do with what we learned today” session led by Diane Davidson. “It was a great day, but I was disappointed with the number of participants,” Henry County Diabetes Community Organizer Mona Huff said.  “However, we will continue to keep trying to have educational events and increase awareness of the problem with diabetes.  Our goal with the grant is to see complications of diabetes decrease and ultimately a decrease in diabetes. Perhaps the timing of this one was not good since it was the week before Thanksgiving.” The group will begin planning for a spring event soon and if the community wants to have input on this please contact Mona at 845-6849 or come to our next meeting on at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the 4-H building on the Henry County Fairgrounds. The meeting will consist of a diabetes-friendly potluck with recipe swaps and guest speaker Dr. Joe Ambrosio from University of Louisville speaking on “The Joys of the Season.”
