Henry County Fiscal Court is in pursuit of Economic Development for job creation and economic growth. Proper economic development requires good planning and community involvement to allow growth which is desired by its citizens.
It is my desire to open the doors to good restaurants into the county which serve quality food and offer drinks to complement its menu. In order to accomplish this Henry County will need to pass, through special election, the vote to serve alcoholic beverages in such establishments.
Per KRS 242.020: A petition for an election shall be signed by a number of constitutionally qualified voter of the territory to be affected, equal to 25 percent of the votes cast in the territory at the last preceding general election. The petition may consist of one (1) or more separate units, and shall be filed with the county clerk.
The last general election generated 5,851 voters which requires 1,463 registered Henry County voters to sign the petition.
Petition wording: As a constitutionally qualified voter of Henry County, in order to promote economic development and tourism, I the undersigned, hereby request that a local option election be held in Henry County on the sale of alcoholic beverages by the drink at restaurants and dining facilities that seat a minimum of 50 persons and derive a minimum of 70 percent of their gross receipts from sale of food if alcoholic beverages are purchased in conjunction with a meal.
The petition must be filed with 1,463 registered voters having signed. To acquire this amount of signatures will require a county wide effort. I am looking for persons willing to help receive the signatures along with anyone who is willing to sign the petition to allow a vote on this issue.
Anyone in support of the allowing this issue to be voted on by the people should contact me. My phone number is 502-376-3605 and my email address is VoteHenryCountymoist@yahoo.com. An organizational meeting will be called in the near future and we need to rally support to bring this county up to competitive standards.
Editor’s note: This letter is not in reference to the local option vote to be held in the NE New Castle Precinct on June 21.
