Baptist Northeast award is well earned

-A A +A

This year I celebrated my 10th year of providing OB/GYN care to those in our community and surrounding counties. I chose to practice in La Grange because the community was similar to the small town in which I was raised in eastern Kentucky. My goal was to bring quality care from the “city” to our community so our residents didn’t have to drive to town for excellent care.

When I arrived, I found that many in the community had their reservations about how a smaller community hospital might provide a high level of care compared to the hospitals located closer to downtown. This idea was rooted in the reputation that had grown under corporations that ran the hospital in its early years. Fortunately, Baptist Healthcare recognized the opportunity to serve our community and bought the hospital in 1992.

Under the leadership of David Gray, Dennis Johnson and now, Chris Roty, the hospital transformed to embrace values of quality and service. During my 10 years here, the medical staff has placed intense focus on quality and patient outcomes. Nurses and employees alike share that passion to strive for excellence.

The result? Baptist Hospital Northeast was honored this month as one of only 12 hospitals in the United States to receive the 2012 Top Improver Award for Clinical Achievement from Press Ganey, a national healthcare quality reporting corporation. Press Ganey has ranked Baptist Hospital Northeast in the top three percent in the nation in overall improvement in the four clinical areas of acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure, pneumonia and surgical infections.

As Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, I could not be more proud of our medical staff and employees for their commitment to quality care, every time. I am proud of the job they do day in and day out to provide evidence-based care in our rural setting. Equally important, this hospital is a community asset that has now shone a national spotlight on the care it provides to Henry and surrounding counties.

I hope you will join me in personally congratulating the doctors, nurses and employees of Baptist Hospital Northeast on this significant accomplishment.
