The Henry County Lady Cats’ soccer team gained some valuable preseason experience by playing in the Bluegrass State Games on August 2.

The Lady Cats lost to Anderson County 3-1 in their first game and 10-0 to Russell High School in their second game.

In the Anderson County game freshman Savannah Medley scored the Lady Cats goal with an assist from Rachel Vegh.

Coach Shelby Pfeiffer was happy with the team’s performance against good competition.

“I was very impressed with that score,” Pfeiffer said. “Anderson County is a huge school and in previous years when we faced them we have been mercy ruled.

“In the second game against Russell they were a team that went to the Elite Eight last year and were defeated by Notre Dame, who went on to be state champions. They mercy-ruled us in the second half however I expect to see them at state again this year.

“Overall, I was very pleased with our performance at the Bluegrass games. My girls are making strides each week. I know that if we continue to improve each week there is no doubt in my mind that we will have a very successful season.”
