Christmas greetings from the Chamber

-A A +A
By Pat Wallace

It is that time of year again when agonizing decisions must be made—what to give those special people in your life. We hear on the news about the crowded malls and highways, and we dread looking for that one gift that will stand out from the rest. The Henry County Chamber of Commerce wants you to know you do not have to look far for gifts that will please the most discriminating. Any of our member stores have wonderful choices for the holidays. If you stop and think about the money that goes out of this county when people decide to go to neighboring cities to shop, it boggles the mind. If Miss X goes to another county and checks the stores, spends money there, then eats a meal at the restaurant in that county, buys gas before returning to Henry Co., and then stops for a snack, Henry County loses money that turns over 8 times each time a consumer pulls out his/her wallet. This is a true economic loss to our area. How can the consumers of Henry County help our economy? Obviously, shopping locally is the first step. We have numerous shops, restaurants, and service stations from which to choose. Still don’t know what to buy? Check out our gift certificates that can be used in fifteen places in Henry County. The entire purpose of this project is to keep money in the county. Chamber members whose business lends itself to the use of gift certificates can participate at no charge. The certificates are sold in $5 and $10 amounts and can be used for a year at any participating merchant. They can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce located at 11 N. Main in New Castle. They make great corporate or incentive gifts as well as giving the recipients a choice as to the gift they want. How about a meal at Our Best Restaurant or Chat and Nibble? Or maybe a gift or toy from Cooks in Eminence, New Castle or Campbellsburg; a handmade gift or tanning session at Golden Trinkets and Treasures in New Castle or maybe some gas or pizza from 4 Seasons BP; Perry’s Tri-County Hardware offers a multitude of items especially for the guy in your life who seems to have everything. Make a Memory in New Castle can do beautiful embroidery or perhaps an Eminence Warrior or HC Wildcat sweatshirt or hat might please a teen. Hawkins Farm Center definitely can fill the bill for those guys and gals who are hard to please and want that different item. Pleasureville Florist and Antiques has the latest in decorating colors and designs for the home as well as hidden treasures in the Rough Room upstairs. Confused as to what to buy the family pet? Check out Henry County Animal Clinic who can accept the certificates for pet care as well as healthy food and cute animal items. Still confused? How about a night at Colonial Hill Inn Bed and Breakfast? This can make memories to last a lifetime. Of course, a bottle of Smith-Berry Wine to help make the season bright is always in good taste. You can even use these certificates at Browning’s Pontiac, Chevrolet, GMC for parts or car-related gifts. How about some Avon for anyone on the gift list? Karen Taylor, Avon Independent Sales Rep will help you choose. Drive down to Pendleton and check out Country Collectibles who will definitely help Santa finish his shopping with their variety of merchandise. The Chamber will accept these for purchase of either Historic Images of Henry County or Sharing Henry County’s Heritage cookbook which are for sale at the Chamber office. The businesses mentioned in this article are by no means the only places to shop in Henry County, but they are the ones who are currently on the Chamber gift certificate brochure. If you are a Chamber member and want to participate in this project to keep money in Henry County, just call Pat at 845-0806 and she will get you signed up. This is not a fundraiser for the Chamber but a way to help keep our economy strong. Merchants participate at no charge and when they receive the certificate for a sale, they let the Chamber know and they are reimbursed for the amount of the certificate. There are few restrictions on the certificates. No change is given when they are used (but the customer can apply the gift certificate to a more expensive item), and each certificate must be used at one location. (This is why they are in $5 and $10 denominations, but any amount can be purchased which allows the recipient to spread out his/her choices). The Chamber hopes all have a blessed and merry holiday with cash registers sounding like the jingle of sleigh bells. If you would like to be a member of the Chamber and help Henry County’s economy, call the Chamber at 845-0806.
