Clear Creek Park in Shelbyville is a close-to-home recreational facility that can be enjoyed year-round. The park has more than 200 acres and an incredible array of family fun and fitness options.

The Family Activity Center offers a wide range of sports and exercise options. There is an indoor gymnasium featuring basketball and volleyball courts as well as a soft floor running/walking track. An indoor pool, frog-slide children’s pool and hot tub provide year-round water fun. Fitness classes include yoga, Pilates, strengthening, aerobics and water aerobics.

Lake Shelby provides 20 acres of year-round fishing and boating enjoyment. The lake is stocked with bluegill, crappie, bass and catfish and boaters can rent a canoe, rowboat or paddleboat by the hour or by the day. Patrons also may launch their own boats on the lake for a modest fee. Lake manager, Bob Dennie did not recommend launching pontoons boats at Lake Shelby. “I’ve had a few in the lake and there was not a lot of room,” he said.

Camping also is allowed year-round at the lake. There are ten RV spots and 20 tent sites. Campers can choose sites based on lake proximity or rustic quality. “Back in the primitive area, there’s lots of shade,” Dennie said. Each site is equipped with a fire-pit grill and picnic table. Dennie said fall is a great time for fishing and camping at the park.

For the golfer, Clear Creek boasts a nine-hole executive golf course. During the week golfers play on an open basis. Tee times are required on weekends and holidays. There is also a practice range. Clinics and lessons are available. According to the website their mission is to “offer the best of golf at the best of values.”
