Postmaster, New Castle

You probably know that the Postal Service is big. To be able to serve the mailing needs of every American every business day, we have to be big! But we bet you didn’t know that:

• The postal service delivers about 212 billion pieces of mail a year. That’s 8,000 pieces of mail per second. We serve 146 million addresses including homes, businesses and post office boxes in every city and town in all 50 states and U.S. territories. And each day that number grows. We add an average of seven rural routes every business day.

• Mail not only helps businesses bring customers into their retail stores, it helps them boost online sales too. According to the market research company comScore, people who receive direct mail are nearly twice as likely to purchase from a retail website as those who only receive an internet communication. And when the mailpiece is a catalog, the results are even better-more than two-thirds of shoppers visit the site.

• Postal service operations are financed solely by the sale of its products and services. The only government funds the Postal Service receives are reimbursements by Congress to provide mail for the blind and to keep certain postage rates for nonprofit and other qualifying organizations below cost.

• Express Mail and Priority Mail packages and envelopes-available to postal customers free of charge- are now 100 percent recyclable. Decals, labels, examining inks, tapes and adhesives from the Postal Service are recyclable too. As a result, the Postal Service not only exceeds governmental standards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it is the only mailing or shipping company to earn silver-level “Cradle to Cradle” Certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) for human and environmental health.

All of us here at the Post Office appreciate your business and your trust.

We look forward to serving your mailing needs! The following offices will be having customer appreciation day today (Wednesday, May 6): Bethlehem, Campbellsburg, Eminence, New Castle, Pleasureville, Port Royal, Smithfield and Sulphur.
