Do you remember the story of David in the Bible? He held a slingshot to fight off Goliath.
Well, I feel like David as I have been issued a challenge with Bullitt and Shelby Counties. We are having a competition: who can walk the most steps on Sept. 29, in simultaneous walks in our counties. I feel like David as both counties are much bigger than we. However, even if we are small we are mighty and we can win.
Each person attending the walk will receive a goody bag that will include a pedometer donated by Walgreens. Our walk will be held at Henry County Recreational Park at the new track. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., and the walk will start at 9 a.m. We will walk until 10:30; Yes you can take rest periods. At 10:30 your steps will be recorded and we will see who the winner is. You can pre-register by calling me. (Mona Huff at 845-6849) There will be gifts for the winner of different age categories. We will have special groups to entertain and snacks.
Henry County, come to my rescue. If we do not win, I have to clean Judge John Logan’s toilet. Please, I do not want to do that. If we win, we will have great bragging rights as well as a beautiful trophy and so much county pride. Also, this will be the kick-off event for the newly formed walking club. To be a part of the walking activity all you have to do is either find or form a walking team, or walk by yourself and record your steps. You will be given information on how to get the information to the excel worksheet queen — Brenda Mason — and each month we will know how many steps Henry County has walked! We would like to see schools, churches, businesses, and families all walking to bring us together and help implement a healthy initiative for the whole community. Please, join us.
