Former Eminence high school softball player Shelby Dees will be joining the Georgetown College Tigers’ softball team when play begins in 2013.

Along with Sandy Young of Allen County-Scottsville and Rachel Simms of Bullitt East, Dees rounds out a strong recruiting year for the Tigers.

According to Georgetown Coach Thomas Thornton in a news release, these three players will add versatility to the team.

“I’m really excited about my team this year, he said. “Sandy, Rachel and Shelby are good adds for us. All have a good variety of skills that help me be free to use them where I need them.”

Dees, who enrolled at Georgetown after receiving a presidential scholarship for academics, decided to try out for the softball team.

In late June she had a private workout with the coach and impressed him enough to be offered a spot on the team.

“I’m very excited,” the former Eminence outfielder said. “I’m just grateful to have the opportunity to go and play in college. Coach Thornton plans to use me in multiple positions.”

Dees’ high school coach Bill Covington was pleased to hear that Dees was continuing her softball career.

“I am so proud of Shelby,” he said. “She has worked so hard and she deserves this reward. She improved each season. I can’t wait to see her play.”
