Compete at Henry, Frankfort

By Greg Woods

The Eminence Warriors cross country team opened their season with three meets last week. On Sept. 18 they traveled three miles down the road to Harry Hill Park to compete in Henry County’s first home meet. On Wednesday they traveled to Frankfort and participated in an all-comers’ meet at the venerable State Archives course. Finally on Saturday they participated in their first big invitational at the Ky. Horse Park where Franklin County hosts their annual invitational.

Franklin County Invitational

Frankfort All Comers’ Meet

Due to injury and illness Eminence had only middle school runners at this meet. Coach Christina Jimison was pleased with her young runners in this event. She said, “Frankfort was a much bigger meet than the Henry County meet and my team was very excited. My middle school team put forth a phenomenal effort and I am very proud of them. They are becoming much more comfortable with the meets and are already setting new personal goals for next week’s meets.”

Results were as follows:

Girls 8th grade and under race (165 runners)

1500 meters

35th-Madison Doktor 7:39

49th-Trinity Durrett 7:58

60th -Tavena West 8:13

Boys 8th grade and under race (207 runners)

1500 meters

Henry County Meet

Jimison felt that her team used this race as a feeling out process because of their inexperience. “At Henry the team was just getting used to the feel of competition and the process involved at meets. Most of them have never run before and they were nervous, but I was very proud of their efforts. As a coach, I will continue to work on the team building aspect and continue to practice racing strategies.

Madison Doktor is definitely standing out in the team. She finished 2nd at Henry and 35th at Frankfort. I have to say that my whole team put forth a tremendous effort at both meets, but they especially pushed it at Frankfort and I am very proud of all of them.”
