The Eminence Warriors girls’ basketball team traveled to Louisville Thursday night to take on the Whitefield Academy Lady Wildcats and fell 49-42.
The Warriors fell behind in the first quarter 18-12 before closing the halftime margin to four points at 27-23 going into the locker room.
Eminence continued to try to fight their way back into the lead. “We came out of halftime with a 7-0 run to take the lead,” coach Bill Covington said.
But the Warriors could not sustain their momentum as Whitefield outscored the Warriors 16-6 for the remainder of the period to take 43-36 lead going into the final quarter.
Neither team could get their offense going in the final period when each team scored 6 points to set the final margin at seven.
“I was very disappointed,” Covington said. This was a game we could have won. We struggled with their pressure defense and we did not run our offenses. We took a step back in this game.
“Brooklyn Moore and Lindsay Craigmyle played well off the bench and Tiffany Thomas had a great defensive game.
The Warriors dropped to 2-4 on the season Whitefield academy improved to 4-4.
