Lady Warriors knocked out by Williamstown in first round

The Eminence girls stay in the 8th Region All “A” Classic was a short one this year as the basketball squad was knocked out in the opening round with a 64-28 loss to Williamstown last Tuesday night.

The single-elimination tournament, hosted by Gallatin County High School, included the 8th Region teams that are also part of the smallest 125 schools in Kentucky to be eligible for various All “A” events. Walton-Verona won the tournament with a 47-38 win over Carroll County in the opening round, 40-30 win over Owen County in the semifinals and 54-30 win over host Gallatin County in the finals.

Eminence coach Carter Martin could not be reached for comment and no stats were available.

The Lady Warriors also lost to Madison Southern on Friday night at home, 67-37, for an 0-15 start to the season. They have not won a game since last February when they beat Cornerstone Christian during a three-win season. Their losing streak is now 19 games.

Eminence’s PJ Thomason went to the bench with a hurt leg during the Madison Southern game and had to be taken off the court on a stretcher in the final minutes for precautionary reasons. The extent of her injury is still unknown.

Most likely without Thomason, the Lady Warriors  played at Anderson County on Tuesday night in their first 30th District outing this season and play at Silver Grove this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. They lost to Silver Grove by just 10 points, 38-28, in the second game of the season on Dec. 5.
