Spring sports at Eminence High School are still on hold as the baseball, softball and track teams have yet to get started.
The EHS softball team has been disrupted by the rainy conditions that has left the playing field too wet for any games. The Lady Warriors were scheduled to play Louisville Collegiate last Tuesday, Carroll County last Thursday and Waggener on Monday but all three were canceled when the field was labeled unplayable. If the weather cooperates, they will travel to Kentucky Country Day at 5 p.m. this Wednesday. In his first year coaching the squad, Bill Covington is still waiting for his opener.
Meanwhile, the EHS baseball team is scheduled to start its season against Anderson County at 5:30 p.m. this Wednesday at home. Concentrating on the younger players this season, Mark Payton has elected to schedule fewer varsity games in 2010 and add more games for the junior varsity and middle school players.
The track team, coached by Steve Frommeyer, has not formalized a schedule. The team was in jeopardy of not fielding a team this spring but decided to keep the program going after there was enough interest. Frommeyer said they will take it week by week, focusing on the end of the season when it counts the most.
