Family Dollar, the national discount retailer based in Charlotte, N.C., will open its Eminence store Mar. 6, a corporate spokesperson said last week.

The 9,100 square-foot-store, located at 63 Depot Ave., will create about five part-time associate jobs and two full-time management positions, he said.

The store is now hiring.

Family Dollar's new Eminence location is part of a corporate strategy aimed at growing the store's customer base, Public Relations Manager Josh Braverman said.

"We put stores in areas that will benefit from the value and convenience we provide," he said. "We want to be a neighborhood store."

The store sells apparel, household items, cleaning and beauty aids and other sundries.

"People can go into the Family Dollar and get good quality merchandise at a good price," Braverman said.

Family Dollar operates more than 6,400 stores in 44 states, according to information provided on its Web site.

Family Dollar also has locations in Shelbyville and Carrollton.

Henry County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Pat Wallace said the store will be a great asset to the area.

"Anytime we can have people spend money in the county that's wonderful," Wallace said. "I hope this store will be an incentive to keep the money here."
