Local players get chance at football playing for the Storm

By Greg Woods

Several local men have received a second chance at playing football they never expected to get until the Kentucky Storm semipro team was created by Richard Smith.

“I was going to play for the Reapers in Radcliffe until I found out that we were going to have a team about a month later,” Desmond Mason, a 2006 EHS graduate, said. “I never thought I’d get to play again after Eminence in ’06. “It’s more than what I expected. I thought it was going to be a little league — not nearly as professional as it is — especially our team. I never expected us to have such a good turnout. It is way more competitive than I thought it would be.”

Desmond’s brother DeMarcus started the season as a coach but has joined the team as a lineman. “I never thought I would play again,” he said. “I was helping coach and Coach Smith got me some pads and I started playing. I’m behind everybody else as far as conditioning and I’m trying to get back, but I’m okay in game situations.”
