If you’re a yard sale hound, get ready for the first ever “Hiway 55 Yard Sale.”

Residents all along Kentucky 55 in Henry, Shelby and Spencer counties are invited to stimulate the local economy April 16-19.

Annie Eads, president of the Finchville Ruritan Community Center in Shelby County, asks folks all along Ky. 55 to participate in the first “Hiway 55 Yard Sale.”

“Grandma’s stuff sitting on your shelf is doin’ you no good,” she said.

The club has sponsored two yard sales per year at the community center in Finchville, but had an idea to get more people involved.

“We were thinking maybe people would like to make a little cash with the economy the way it is,” she said. “We’d love to get the whole Highway 55 to do it.”

Karen Paris was thinking along the same lines.

She will set up a trailer in the Shelter Insurance parking lot in Eminence selling funnel cakes during the event. Paris said six or more families will set up at that location. “Several people are going to set up (yard sale) tables,” she said. “It’s a way for anyone to make some extra cash.”

The New Castle Main Street Program also will participate on Saturday, April 18.

The former Locker Building on Main Street will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for an indoor yard sale to benefit the non-profit organization.

Manager Jeff Thoke said anyone interested in donating items (no clothing accepted) may call Lynn Adams, New Castle City Hall at 845-7570 or Jeff Thoke at 645-5421. They can arrange for articles to be dropped off or even picked up from donors.

New Castle Main Street will offer free lemonade, and visitors are invited to have a look around the renovated interior of the building.

Folks wanting to make a day of it will find yard sales dotting Ky. 55 in several counties. Many more have signed up for booths both inside and outside the Finchville Ruritan Community Center. The community center yard sale will be open Thursday, April 16 through Saturday, April 18 from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sunday, April 19 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

To have your yard sale location listed on the “Hiway 55 Yard Sale” map or for more information, call (502) 834-7754.
