The Henry County softball team moved one step closer in winning its fourth straight North Central Kentucky Conference Tournament last Wednesday night when the Ladycats defeated Carroll County in first-round action.
The Ladycats, who won their first NCKC title in 2005, wasted no time in putting away the Lady Panthers, scoring nine runs in the first inning and pulling away to a 16-0 victory after three innings of play.
“After the Owen County game last Monday, we talked about going out and jumping on teams we should beat,” Kasten said of Owen, who Henry defeated 6-0 after a slow start a few days before. “That’s what we wanted to do Wednesday against Carroll, and that’s what we did.”
Henry had 13 plate appearances during the first inning alone, when they racked up nine runs off a mixture of hits and walks. The Ladycats then scored four more runs in the second and three in the third.
Carroll, on the other hand, was held by pitcher Kaitlyn Foree, who allowed just one hit, coming during the first inning.
Henry will resume NCKC play this Wednesday with a semifinal game against Trimble County at 5 p.m. Williamstown and Walton-Verona will play next, followed by the championship game between the two winners. The triple header will be played at Owen County High School.
