Colby, to answer your question, how did I join the Navy? I received a NROTC scholarship from high school. There were 2,500 of us selected nationwide from 35,000 applicants. The idea was to supplement the officer graduates from the Naval Academy since the academy wasn’t producing enough officers to man the fleet.

We were given regular commissions vs. reserve commissions.
