Derek Jeffries, 17, of New Castle is the son of Keith and Laura Jeffries. His grandparents are Carolyn and Lawrence Jeffries, and Judy and Roy Jackson.
Why did you want to participate in the GSP program?
It is a very select group of individuals and it would open doors for me in the future.
What are you most looking forward to with the GSP program?
Having a college experience and meeting people that are more like me.
What do you hope to study in college?
Ag-business, pre-law or engineering.
What are your career plans after school?
Receive my undergraduate in ag business then obtain my law degree and buy into dad’s practice. Buy a farm in Henry County. Practice estate law and farm.
What clubs or other activities do you participate in?
New Castle Baptist Youth Group, FFA, FBLA, FCA, YoCo, BETA, varsity basketball, AAU Basketball with the Kentucky Elite and farming.
What are some of your accomplishments?
1st in the Region in FFA Goat Impromptu Speaking last year and Chapter Secretary. Regional accounting competition for FBLA. Planned many successful events as the Alternate Activities committee chairman for Henry County YoCo., 31st District Basketball All-District Team. Winning many basketball tournaments with the BA Hoyas last summer. I played positions 3-5 for them. I actively work and play on my family’s farm on a daily basis.
