Joey Kenny, 17, of New Castle is the son of Nick and Lisa Kenny. His grandparents are Gail and Nick Kenny, and Carol Suhanic.
Why did you want to participate in the GSP program?
I wanted to participate in GSP because it is such a prestigious program to get into. It is a great scholarship to obtain and a lot of hard work has gone into applying for the program. It is a full ride to college with the right ACT score which is a tremendous amount of money you can earn through the program which is also another reason I wanted to participate in the program.
What are you most looking forward to with the GSP program?
I am most looking forward to spending my summer with kids like me. They are all intelligent people who have worked just as hard as I have to be where they are. I have heard a lot about the program and am excited to attend this year.
What do you hope to study in college?
Mathematics of some sort.
What are your career plans after school?
A profession that revolves around mathematics. I have always enjoyed working with numbers, so why not get paid for it. Not sure of the exact career that I would like to pursue, but anything with math is an idea right now.
What clubs or other activities do you participate in?
Future Business Leaders of America, BETA, MOVE, Spanish Club, Kentucky United Nations Assembly, Kentucky Youth Assembly, Student Council, Pep Club, Friends of Rachel and Youth Coalition.
What are some of your accomplishments?
“I have earned many awards throughout my high school career such as Certificate of Achievement for Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra I, Honors Algebra II, Honors Science 9, Honors Biology, Spanish I, Health/Physical Education. As well as Academic All-State for Football, Certificate of Recognition for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, Honorable Mention for Editor in the Ohio Valley Chapter.
