Harvest Showcase is July 31

By The Staff

Please mark your calendars for this year’s Harvest Showcase on July 31. The Showcase committee has a mix of new events and old favorites that should prove to make this 11th annual event one of our best ever. As always there will be a farmer’s breakfast held by the Chamber of Commerce starting at 7:30.  This will be followed by Lunch at the Farmer’s Market with locally grown beef, pork, vegetables and homemade cantaloupe ice cream on the menu. There will also be the traditional crowd favorites like hayrides, antique tractor display and pull, kids games, livestock exhibits, and lots of Henry County made and grown products for sale. It is my understanding that the inspiring and talented Patrick Henry Hughes plans to sing with local country/gospel group Music N’ A Box at around 11 a.m..

This year the committee has added a couple of events that should provide a lot of fun as well as a chance to pick up a little extra cash for the participants. At noon under the shade of the big tent there will be an event called the “husband challenge” with $100 in potential prize money.  The husband and wife both must be willing to participate. Following this event Capstone Produce Market will be sponsoring the largest watermelon contest which is worth another $100.  The winning watermelon, which must be grown in Henry County, will then be auctioned off with proceeds going to help the Showcase.

As always the Showcase is a free event so make plans to attend and bring your friends.  If you have any questions you may call the County Extension Office at 845-2811 or the County Judge/Executive’s Office at 845-5707.
