The Henry County Cross Country team competed at the Titan Cross Country Classic on Saturday and found the course to their liking as several runners had personal records or season best times. Sophomore John Bates led the boys’ team again this week after shattering his old personal record last week at the tough Capitol View Classic. This week he lowered his personal record by 5 seconds to 19:59. Freshmen Josh Logsdon and Cameron Morgan, and 8th grader Brandon Handley all lowered their personal records significantly.

Cathryn Fischer led the girls’ team with 25:15 and Izzy Miller, who got a late start to her season due to an injury, had a season best time of 26:21.

“Our boys pack ran well,” coach Victoria Michels said. “They have been running as a pack all season. It was nice to see them run together at a faster time. We are looking forward to running on our home course. The kids are excited to host and run a course they are comfortable with. The Renaissance Run will be the last race of the season for our middle school and elementary runners.

“Our middle school and elementary runners did well Saturday. Lilly was second and Grace and Katherine had solid races. Landon Morgan ran the best we have seen him run all season and Keegan and Isaac both placed in the top 10 in the boys’ elementary race.”

“John finally broke 20 minutes,” coach Ricky Drawbaugh said. “Our other guys are getting faster. I’m glad we are moving in the correct direction. We should see big improvements starting this weekend because we have just started speed workouts.’

The girls had a rougher time. Micah (Lineman) and Izzy are sore from playing soccer and running. In the middle school race, Lilly Golden thought it was a 3k race and was winning at the 3k mark and held on for second.”

Drawbaugh looks forward to this weekend.

“We are excited to be hosting the 2nd annual Renaissance Run this Saturday. It looks to be a big meet with us hosting region this year. We would love to see people there supporting our kids.”

The 2nd Annual Renaissance Run will be held at the Highlands Renaissance Park in Eminence Saturday, Oct. 6, with the girls’ elementary race starting at 8:30 a.m. The boys’ elementary race follows and then the girls’ middle school race starts at 9:30 followed by the boys’ middle school race. The high school runners will begin running at 10:45 with a girls’ junior varsity race. That race will be followed by the boys’ junior varsity race. The girls’ varsity race begins at 12:15 p.m. and the boys’ varsity race is at 1 p.m.
