Eastern 54, Trimble 0: In the varsity division of the Henry County Youth Football League, the Eastern Colts opened the season with a 54-0 win over the Trimble County Raiders on Saturday.

Jacob Watson scored first with a 34-yard touchdown run, and followed with another touchdown when he picked up a fumble and returned it 22 yards. The Colts scored two extra points on a pass from Conner Smith to Nick James after the second touchdown. Smith then ran in a quarterback sneak late in the first quarter, and the extra points pass from Smith to Johnathon Suter was complete.

Early in the second quarter, Watson went into the end zone from 15 yards  out and the conversion point was run in by Smith. Watson scored his fourth touchdown run on a 20-yarder.

Just before the half, Watson ran in a 10-yard touchdown carry and the conversion point was run in by Fernando Smither. Watson scored his sixth and final TD of the day in the opening kickoff of the third quarter from 55 yards. The final score of the game came from Tyler “Tader” Maynes with a 4-yard carry to put the Colts in front 54-0.

The Colts were led on the defensive side of the ball by Wyatt Owens, Chris Priddy, and Jacob Watson.

New Castle 19, Eminence 12: The New Castle Chiefs defeated the Eminence Redskins, 19-12, in overtime on Saturday in the varsity division of the HCYFL.

During the first quarter, New Castle’s Ethan Tuggle scored on a 17-yard run. During the second quarter, Eminence’s Austin Perry reached the end zone to tie the game at 6 at the half.

During the third quarter, New Castle’s Gavin Jamison scored on an 18-yard run. During the fourth quarter, Perry scored on a 45-yard run to tie the game at 12 at the end of regulation, sending the contest into overtime.

In extra time, Tuggle scored on a 6-yard run and kept the ball for the two-point conversion. Tuggle then intercepted an Eminence pass to end the game with the Chiefs ahead 19-12.

For New Castle, Jameson had 105 yards rushing, while Tuggle had 93 yards rushing, a team-high 10 tackles and one interception.
