The Henry County boys golf team opened the 2012 season against Trimble County at Cardinal Hills golf course in Bedford on Aug. 15.
The Raiders came out on top 179-212 against the very young Wildcats. Henry County’s oldest player was freshman Jacob Beckley.
Sixth grader Alex Hadden finished second individually with a 42. Beckley shot 58, 6th grader Isaac Klempner shot 52, 7th grader Tyler Tingle and 8th grader Dillon Allen both shot 60 in the 9-hole match.
“The team performed very well for being young and playing in their first match,” Assistant coach Steve Allen said. “These scores do not show how well these guys actually hit the ball. I saw a lot of good things in this match. I can see the work these guys put into practices. With the help that (head coach) Cory (Krebs) and I have been giving them, they are going in the right direction. You can see that in how well they hit the ball. They just didn’t score. They know they have a long road ahead, but they all are working vey hard on their games.”
