The Henry County track team opened their outdoor season with a home all-comers meet on Mar. 19. On a chilly, windy evening the Wildcats competed against teams from Owen County, Trimble County, Carroll County, and North Oldham high schools.

The boys’ team won the meet with a score of 85 points. Owen County was second with 60 points, Trimble was third with 56 points and Carroll County finished fourth with 32.

The Cats dominated the throwing events with Giovanni Rivera also finishing in the top five in both events and Ethan McCleskey finishing in the top five in the discus, however, only the top two competitors could score points in the team standings.

The boys’ team also dominated in the pole vault, long jump and triple jump.

In the shot she had a distance of 26-00 for a fourth place finish. Tierra Allison also scored in both events with fifth place finishes.

Cathryn Fischer had a second place finish in the 300-meter hurdles and Sara Finley finished 3rd in the long jump and 4th in the triple jump.

Destany Crawford finished third in the 100-meter hurdles and Teagan Fish had fourth place finishes in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes.

Henry County track coach Sed Williams was pleased with the team’s performance in less than ideal conditions. “I was impressed with Jesse Mann in the 800, Ethan Smith in the 1600, Cole Nelson in the 400, Connor Finley in the 110 hurdles, Eddie Jones in the 200 and Sydney Amyx  in the 1600. There times were good considering the weather conditions,” he said. “Also Cameron Johnson and Connor finley PR’d in the long jump was impressive because both haven’t practiced it much because of the weather. All in all, I’m proud of how the meet went and am looking forward to warmer weather to increase more intense workouts which will hopefully manifest itself in better results.”
