The Henry County Lady Cats traveled to Grant County Saturday to play in their final regular season tournament of the season and had good results from their top two players.
Seventh-grader Maddie Hensley shot 76 to take fourth place and MacKenzie Peyton shot a 79 to take sixth in the tournament.
Seventh-graders Nikki Perkinson and Hayley Peyton shot 118 and 126, respectively, to give the Cats a total of 399. Claire Young shot 143 as the Cats’ fifth player. The 399 total put the Cats in eighth place in the sixteen-team field.
Coach Willie Peyton was proud of the regular season performances of his top two golfers. “Kenzie has played in 10 tournaments this high school season and made all-tournament in all but one of those tournaments. Maddie has played in seven tournaments this year, making the all-tournament team in three of those tournaments.”
As for the overall performance of the team heading into the NCKC and regional tournaments Peyton still sees room for improvement.
“It was our best finish of the year. We showed some improvement Saturday but we still need more to have a chance at the NCKC on Tuesday.”
