The Henry County Historical Society would like to say thank you.
Or, at least, that will be the theme of their annual fundraising gala set for March 21 at Smith-Berry winery.
With a “Gratzi! Henry County” theme, the event will include an Italian based meal as well as live and silent auctions.
According to a letter sent by the chairwoman for the gala, Julie Willard, many of the items in the silent auction will be more practical than in the past. “This year, we are especially interested in useful and practical items,” she wrote. “In response to the current economic situation, we hope to offer several gift certificates to area businesses or restaurants.”
One of the big ticket items, according to committee members, will be an evening in Louisville with dinner at Vincenzo’s restaurant and tickets to the Actor’s Theater presenting a reading of Wendell Berry’s “Wild Blessings.”
Another live auction item will be a homemade dinner for eight created by members of the gala committee.
Some of the silent auction items include gift certificates to a variety of local businesses.Willard said she would try to get two baskets donated by her employer that would feature pet care products, one for cats and one for dogs.
“We’re really trying to (go with) usable items,” she said. “In my opinion, that’s where we need to be right now.”
Tickets to the gala are $65 and may be purchased at the History Museum in New Castle or by calling 845-0999. Only 121 tickets will be sold.
Proceeds from the gala go to support the society and its operations.
