Readers will remember that we sent in a letter about three weeks ago, asking for help in purchasing medals to present to our veterans at this year’s Veterans Day assembly. This is to update everyone that we no longer are asking for donations — we met (and exceeded) our goal, a week ahead of schedule!
I intend to run a larger ad in a future issue of the paper listing the donors, as well as an agenda for the assembly. But for now, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to the organizations and to the private donors who made this fundraising effort such a success. Whether it was a small donation from a family, or a large corporate donation, every amount helped. Master Sergeant McClure and I are overwhelmed by the generosity of the donors, especially given these difficult economic times. Rest assured that every penny will be used for the veterans, be it at the upcoming ceremony, or in some associated capacity that honors them for their service.
The readership has done a great service toward honoring our veterans, and all of you are to be commended. We invite everyone to observe our veterans be honored (by YOUR efforts) at the assembly, to be held on Nov. 11, from 9:15 to 10:15 at the high school. It will truly be a “community” event, made possible by you, the citizens of the tri-county area. God bless you all.
