Six neglected horses were removed Monday, Sept. 21, from a property at 6129 Bethlehem Road.

The property is owned by Joan Poole, reportedly of Louisville.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals reported the case to the Henry County Sheriff’s office and the Humane Society after receiving an anonymous tip.

A source familiar with the situation contacted the Local, and said they contacted PETA and other agencies, as well as the Local, but wanted to remain anonymous.

Poole is not a Henry County resident and the property appeared to be unoccupied.

“We had already known about it,” said Rescue Director Mike McNutt, “and the sheriff’s office obtained the search and seizure warrants.”

Sheriff Danny Cravens said Deputy Bill Hudson worked with representatives of the Henry County Humane Society to transport the animals to safety.

McNutt said all of the animals are safe. “They have been taken to an undisclosed location,” he said, “where they received medical treatment, food and water.”

A warrant has been issued for Poole’s arrest.
