Ky. 22, just west of its intersection with Main Street in downtown Eminence, remained blocked for much of the day Oct. 16 as first emergency personnel and then LG&E crews responded to reports of a natural gas line being cut at approximately 9:30 a.m. Eminence police and fire responded to block the west side of the intersection, next to Eminence City Hall, to keep traffic and pedestrians away from the leak. City hall, Peapod and other nearby businesses were evacuated for a time as a precaution. Fire Chief Steve Lucas and EPD Lt. Mike Wells noted a crew from Hutchens Telecomm had been operating an excavator in the area, working to install fiber optic lines before the line was severed. Workers restored the west bound lane of travel even as LG&E workers continued to repair the damage.
