Arts and Crafts

 

Free adult scrapbooking offered at the Eminence Community Life Center from 10 a.m. to noon, on Thursdays.

 

Church Services

 

Point Pleasant Christian Church will host Good Friday services at noon on April 6, with a potluck meal following.

Henry Christian Church will be hosting its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 7. This event is open to children 4th grade and younger.

Point Pleasant Christian Church will hold Sun Rise services on Sunday, April 8 at 7 a.m. with breakfast to follow. Other services to be held are Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m.

Sunrise service for New Castle and surrounding communities at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 8, at the Henry County Recreation and Services Park in New Castle at the soccer field if not raining. If rain, will be in the first shelter. After service breakfast will be served at First Baptist Church in New Castle. For more information contact 502-667-2981.

The 1st Annual Wii Bowling Tournament at Pleasureville United Methodist Church will be held on Saturday, April 14. Registration begins at 2 p.m. $20 per team, four to a team. Prize will be awarded  for 1st and 2nd place teams. To pre-register for the Bowling Tournament please contact Jessica Durrett at 396-7140. A concession stand will be available for you to purchase food.

Quakers (The Religious Society of Friends, also known as “Friends”) meets for unprogrammed worship every Saturday at 4 p.m., at Port Royal Methodist Church. This informal group is under the guidance of Lexington Friends Meeting. Contact Betsy Packard: dogbydog123@aol.com or (502) 529-1598.

Drennon Christian Church hosts The Andy Griffith Bible Study at 6 p.m. every Wednesday. Come join for dinner, fun and a laid back Bible Study.

Grace Fellowship of La Grange will hold midweek services at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday in the Ramada Inn meeting room.

New Castle Christian Church’s Adventure  Grange will hold midweek services at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday in the Ramada Inn meeting room.

New Castle Christian Church’s Adventure Club for Kids meets every Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Children through the fifth grade are invited to participate in this fun and creative learning group.

 

Civic Organizations

Eminence Rotary Club meets at noon at Henry Christian Church every Monday.

The New Castle Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Monday of each month at Elza Roberts Cozy Corner Restaurant in New Castle.

Pleasureville Masonic Lodge No. 410 meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month at Lodge Hall, 105 Main St., Pleasureville.

Clubs and Organizations

The Dutch Tract Cemetery will have their annual Board of Dirctors meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 9, in the Low Dutch Meeting House, 6805 Castle Highway, Pleasureville.

Henry County Historical Society Membership meeting will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Monday, April 16, at the Henry County Extension Office. Meat will be provided and members are asked to bring a dish to share. Please RSVP to Hammer Smith at 845-0999. Thomas Freese, author and storyteller, will speak on Civil War ghosts.

Community Services

The mobile food pantry visits Henry County from 3-6 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The gates at the Henry County Fairgrounds open month at Pleasureville City Hall.

Smithfield City Commission — 7:30 p.m., first Monday of each month at Smithfield Baptist Church.

Henry County Fiscal Court — 6 p.m., third Tuesday of each month in the District Court Room.

Henry County Board of Education — 7 p.m., third Monday of every month at various locations.

Eminence Independent Board of Education — 6:30 p.m., third Tuesday of every month at the Board of Education office unless otherwise announced.

Henry County Planning and Zoning — 7 p.m., second Wednesday of each month at the Henry County Courthouse.

Henry County P&Z Board of Adjustments – 7 p.m., fourth Monday of each month at the Henry County Courthouse.

 

Health and Fitness

The Henry County Diabetic Coalition will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month, at the Henry County Fairgrounds 4-H building. For more information, contact Mona Huff at 845-6849.

Library Happenings

Baby and Me at Henry County Library  at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, for infants and toddlers and their caregivers. Also, at 2 p.m. at the Library a class teaching the basics of getting online and browsing the web will take place.

Story Time at 10 a.m. at the Henry County Library on Friday, April 6.

Celebrate the Earth with a Lorax themed party at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at the Henry County Library. All ages welcome.

 

Political Groups

Henry County Republican Party — 7 p.m., second Tuesday of each month, at the Henry County Board of Education   Building.

 

  Support Groups

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. at the Eminence Baptist Church on Friday, April 7. This group and Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Eminence Methodist Church. All meetings are nonsmoking.

A New Direction in Life, a Christian support group for alcohol/drug or other addictions, will meet from 7:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, April 7, at First Baptist Church, Eminence.

AA meeting at 8 p.m. at Pleasureville Methodist Church on Saturday, April 8. These meetings will be nonsmoking.

AA meeting  at 11 a.m., Monday, April 9, at New Castle Christian Church.  Please enter through the green door.

Caregiver support group will meet at 5:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month, for people taking care of someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Call 1-877-224-1349, Ext. 140 for info.

 

Youth Sports

 

Eastern Colts Football team will be having their annual Spring Fling every Saturday in April from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Pleasureville Firehouse. Come ready to play in cleats and weather appropriate clothing. Will be teaching basic fundamentals.
