Christmas Events

A shower will be held at Lake Jericho Fire Department for Ed, Jamie Whitaker and family from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. The family lost their home and dog grooming business  to fire on Nov. 27.

Franklinton Baptist Church will present The Gene and Jean old time Sunday night Christmas Radio Show at 7 p.m. Sunday Dec. 18. Soup and sandwich dinner at 6 p.m.

Bethlehem Living Nativity starts Thursday, Dec. 22, and runs through Saturday, Dec. 25. 6:30 to 9 p.m. nightly. Donkeys love crackers!

Campbellsburg Christian Church is having Christmas Eve Service at 11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24,  and worship on Christmas Day (Dec. 25) at 11 a.m.

Eminence First Presbyterian Church will hold its annual Christmas Eve Candelight Communion Service 11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24.

Bethlehem Baptist Church will have an early morning service on Christmas Day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ from 9 to 10 a.m.

St. John’s Catholic Church Christmas Mass will be said at 5 p.m. Sunday Dec. 25, Nativity of the Lord Christmas mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. The following Sunday, Jan. 1, they will hold the Solemnity of Mary Mass at 9:30 a.m.

Church Services

Quakers (The Religious Society of Friends, also known as “Friends”) meets for unprogrammed worship every Saturday at 4 p.m., at Port Royal Methodist Church. This informal group is under the guidance of Lexington Friends Meeting. Contact Betsy Packard: dogbydog123@aol.com or (502) 529-1598.

Drennon Christian Church hosts The Andy Griffith Bible Study at 6 p.m. every Wednesday. Come join for dinner, fun and a laid back Bible Study.

Grace Fellowship of La Grange will hold midweek services at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday in the Ramada Inn meeting room.

New Castle Christian Church’s Adventure Club for Kids meets every Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Children through the fifth grade are invited to participate in this fun and creative learning group.

Civic Organizations

Eminence Rotary Club meets at noon at Henry Christian Church every Monday.

The New Castle Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Monday of each month at Marlene’s Cozy Corner Restaurant in New Castle.

Pleasureville Masonic Lodge No. 410 meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month at their Lodge Hall, 105 Main St., Pleasureville.

Clubs and Organizations

Campbellsburg Woman’s Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the home of Fredricka Congleton. Bring Ornaments for exchange and please let hostess know if you are unable to attend.

Community Services

The mobile food pantry visits Henry County from 3-6 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The gates at the Henry County Fairgrounds open at 2:45 p.m. Please bring ID or recent mail to confirm address — must live in Henry County.

Bundle up your newspapers, aluminum, plastics, etc., and take to County Road Barn at 714 Property Road, seven days a week.

The January 2012 meeting of the New Castle City Commission will be held on Monday, Jan. 9, due to the New Year holiday.

Campbellsburg City Council — 7 p.m., third Monday of each month at Campbellsburg City Hall.

Eminence City Council — 6:15 p.m., second Monday of each month at Eminence City Hall.

New Castle City Commission — 7 p.m., first Monday of each month at the New Castle Fire Department.

Pleasureville City Commission — 7 p.m., first Monday of each month at Pleasureville City Hall.

Smithfield City Commission — 7:30 p.m., first Monday of each month at Smithfield Baptist Church.

Henry County Fiscal Court — 6 p.m., third Tuesday of each month in the District Court Room.

Henry County Planning and Zoning — 7 p.m., second Wednesday of each month at the Henry County Courthouse.

Henry County P&Z Board of Adjustments — 7 p.m., fourth Monday of each month at the Henry County Courthouse.


Henry County Board of Education — 7 p.m., third Monday of every month at various locations.

Eminence Independent Board of Education — 6:30 p.m., third Tuesday of every month at the Board of Education office unless otherwise announced.

The Eminence SBDM council meeting is held the last Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m.

Health & Fitness

The Henry County Diabetic Coalition will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month, at the Henry County Fairgrounds 4-H building. For more information, contact Mona Huff at 845-6849.

New Castle Christian Church has started “Wednesday Walkers” for anyone wanting to walk for exercise and not do it alone from 6 to 7 p.m. Call Tammy for more information at (502) 667-2982.

Political Groups

Henry County Republican Party — 7 p.m., 2nd Tuesday of each month, at the Henry County Board of Education Building.

Support Groups

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. at the Eminence Baptist Church on Friday, Dec. 16. This group and Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Eminence Methodist Church. All meetings are nonsmoking.

A New Direction in Life, a Christian support group for alcohol/drug or other addictions, will meet from 7:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, at First Baptist Church, Eminence.

AA meeting at 8 p.m. at Pleasureville Methodist Church on Saturday, Dec. 17. These meetings will be nonsmoking.

AA meeting  at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 19, at New Castle Christian Church.  Please enter through the green door.

Surviving the Holidays Seminar will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pleasureville Christian Church on Sunday, Dec. 18, and will include a chili supper. The group is open for those who are grieving the death of a loved one and need help in coping with the loss during the holiday season.

Caregiver support group will meet at 5:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month, for people taking care of someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Call 1-877-224-1349, Ext. 140 for info.
