Church Services

The Alice Powell Circle of the New Castle First Baptist Church is hosting a Luncheon and Style Show at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24. Call Peggy McCarty at (502) 845-2851 or Marilyn Rose at (502) 845-2379 to purchase tickets. Proceeds go to the renovation cost of the fellowship hall.

Drennon Christian Church hosts The Andy Griffith Bible Study at 6 p.m., every Wednesday. Come join for dinner, fun and a laid back Bible Study.

Grace Fellowship of La Grange will hold midweek services at 6:30 p.m., every Tuesday, in the Ramada Inn meeting room.

New Castle Christian Church’s Adventure Club for Kids meets every Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Children through the 5th grade are invited to participate  in this fun and creative learning group.

Civic Organizations

Eminence Rotary Club meets at noon at Henry Christian Church every Monday.

The New Castle Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Monday of each month at Marlene’s Cozy Corner Restaurant in New Castle.

Pleasureville Masonic Lodge #410 meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month at their Lodge Hall, 105 Main Street, Pleasureville.

Community Services

Low cost spay/neuter clinics for dogs, cats, rabbits will be held at the Humane Society of Oldham County in La Grange on Saturday, Sept. 24. All animals must be pre-registered. Call (502) 222-7537 to register.

Community Preparedness Day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 24, at Cropper Baptist Church Christian Life Center, 2164 Flood Rd., Pleasureville. This is hosted by Cropper Baptist and American Red Cross and will provide information on how to develop your family disaster plan.

The mobile food pantry visits Henry County from 3-6 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of each month. The gates at the Henry County Fairgrounds open at 2:45 p.m. Please bring ID or recent mail to confirm address — must live in Henry County.

Bundle up your newspapers, aluminum, plastics, etc., and take to County Road Barn at 714 Property Road, seven days a week.


The Henry County Family Resource and Youth Services Center will hold their advisory council meeting at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Henry County Extension office. The public is welcome to attend. Please call (502) 845-0334 or (502) 845-8608 to reserve your spot.

Eastern Elementary will have their SBDM Council meeting at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the school library.

The Eminence SBDM council meeting is held the last Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m.

The Clark family reunion will be held at the Henry County 4H building Sunday, Sept. 25.

Henry County Farmers Market is open for the season and runs through the end of October, Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings at the Henry County Courthouse.

Health & Fitness

Friends for Michael 5K Run/Walk and Wheel will be held at 9 a.m., Sept. 24, at  Henry County High School. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and is $20 per person. K-12 students’ fees are $10 if accompanied by participating adult. Call (502) 532-7979 for more information.

Free Computer Class at the Henry County Library at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, using Microsoft Word 2007.

Teen Purse Making Class at the Henry County Library at 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22 and Friday Sept. 23. Reservations are required.

Scarf knitting class at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Henry County Library. Students are responsible for one skein of yarn. Reservations are required.

Free Computer Class- Windows 7 and Internet Basics at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Henry County Library. Beginners welcome. Also at 6:30 p.m.at the library, Secrets of Woodford Reserve Distillery’s Head Chef, Nathanial Harris Henton. Reservations are required.

Support Groups

Alcoholics Anonymous meet at 8 p.m. at the Eminence Baptist Church on Friday, Sept. 23. This group, along with Al-Anon, will also meet at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, at Henry County Public Library; and at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Eminence Methodist Church. All of these meetings are non-smoking.

A New Direction in Life, a Christian support group for alcohol/drugs or other addictions, will meet from 7:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, at First Baptist Church, Eminence.

AA meeting at 8 p.m. at Pleasureville Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 24. These meetings will be non smoking.
