Henry County linebacker Nick Magness will join his brother Luke and former teammates Cody Hinkle and Eric Butler at Thomas More College.

The senior signed his letter of intent last week.

Magness saw the atmosphere surrounding the team as a big reason for selecting the school in northern Kentucky.

“I like the atmosphere a lot,” he said. “I like how excited the coaches get when you make good plays. I like how close the coaches are to the players and how the coaches join in with the players when the players are doing something.”

Magness said his brother being there played a role in his decision, but was not the major factor.

“It did a little bit just because it would be nice to play with him again,: he said. “As the coaches were recruiting me, he was recruiting me also.”

Magness also looks forward to playing with another former Wildcat. “I am really looking forward to playing with Eric Butler on defense. As a freshman, I did not get to do that in high school. I got to watch him but not play with him. I look forward to playing with him now.”

“Today was a big day in his life,” said Wildcat coach Jason Spencer. “I’m really proud of him. He’s really worked hard to reach one of these milestones in life.  It was between Thomas More and another school and I think the fact that he liked the atmosphere and that his brother and a couple of other Henry County boys were up there helped him make the decision to go there.

“I was talking to Nick’s parents and we were talking about how Lindsey Wilson and Thomas More have kind of become pipelines for Henry County football. It’s a good thing for us anytime we can have a kid sign to play in college and, most importantly, get an education.”
