I recently learned that the New Castle City Commission is considering dropping out of the Main Street Program. I think this would be a serious mistake. During my tenure as Mayor and Commissioner, the city's participation in Main Street brought tremendous benefits to the city and continues to do so.
Just take a look at the changes in downtown over the past five years. Although there is much work left to do, the oldest building in town has been saved and its further deterioration has been stopped. The facades of many buildings have been greatly improved. None of this would have happened without the town's participation in Main Street.
The City's continuing participation in the Main Street is crucial to saving New Castle.
