The Money Party

-A A +A

Joe Yates’ June 5 column pleased me particularly because of his mention of the  comments of Rep. Juan Vargas, wherein he reminded us of Jesus’ concern for and allegiance to the poor. It inspires the question: What kind of Christians are these conservatives? They wave the Bible at us as they campaign for office, but cast their votes like anybody but Jesus when it comes to the most vulnerable of our brethren.

The Republican Party should be renamed the Selfishism Party or the Intolerant Party or, more appropriately, the Money Party. A nation is, whether Republicans like it or not, a community. Communities are committed to caring for everybody in them, not to homage for the high and mighty.

So, again, what kind of Christians are these conservatives? Ask yourselves, how would Jesus regard them? In fact, pray about it.
