Did you realize that out of the 16 million Veterans who participated in WWII, there are only about 1.5 million still living. The U.S. is losing 800 to 1,000 WWII veterans every day, which means in five years most of the Greatest Generation will be gone.
With the anniversary of D-Day on June 6 and this year’s New Castle Spring Fling on June 8, the New Castle Main Street Program would like to recognize the WWII Veterans living in our area. Help us honor our WWII Veterans while there is time to do so! We will be inviting the WWII Veterans to ride in the Spring Fling Parade on June 8 and will be serving them lunch following the parade.
We need your help!! We need two things:
1. If you are or know of a WWII Veteran in Henry County or our surrounding counties who would like to be honored please call the phone number shown below so that we can contact you. I have spoken to three Veterans, one 87 years old, one 91 years old and another who is 96 years old who want to participate. Whether you are a male or female, served stateside or overseas, we would like your participation. We owe you our gratitude and we would like to say Thanks on Saturday, June 8.
2. We would like to serve the Veterans lunch following the parade. If you would like to contribute food, drinks, or cash donations towards lunch we would be very appreciative. Just call the number below so we can plan accordingly.
To identify a WWII Veteran, or provide assistance with lunch for the veterans, call New Castle City Hall at (502) 845-5750 and ask for Jeff Thoke. If I am out of the office when you call, please leave your contact information with Lynn Adams, our city clerk, and I will get back in touch with you.
I wish to thank you in advance for your help in honoring our WWII Vets and I look forward to hearing from you!
