Happy Holidays!

In keeping with the “Light Up Eminence” activities, I thought I would share with you some of the progress of “Heating Up Eminence” activities, specifically the community driven effort to reopen the Eminence Swimming Pool for our children. Some examples of our progress are: • More than 350 Eminence citizens have signed petitions supporting the reopening of the pool. • More than $5,000 in pledges have been committed by 5 citizens to renovate the pool. • Mayor Jim Petitt had city workers drain the water out of the pool so contractors can bid accurately. • Mayor Jim Petitt has officially opened the bidding process. • The entire City Council has voted to support our efforts. • The city is applying for grants. • A large job corps organization has committed workers to help with the renovations project. • Students at Eminence schools have expressed interest volunteering for service hours. While at times this seems like a David vs Goliath fight, we are committed to continue the good fight because our children are worth it! Don’t you agree? We will be discussing all the progress in more detail at the next “Making Waves” committee meeting on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Henry County Library.
