Pendleton man faces child sexual exploitation charges

A 25-year-old Pendleton man faces 25 charges related to child sexual exploitation, after troopers from the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch arrested him Jan. 25, according to a news release from the Kentucky State Police.

Troopers say that Jonathan McClain was arrested after investigators found the suspect had been using social media to engage in sexual conduct and communication with minors. The investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Pendleton on Jan. 25. Police took certain equipment to forensic laboratory for further examination.

As a result of the investigation, troopers charged McClain with five counts of promoting a minor under 16 in sex performance, 10 counts of possession of matter portraying a sex performance by minor and 10 counts of distribution of obscene matter to minors, first offense. Promoting a minor under 16 in sexual performance is a Class-B felony with each count punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison, according to the news release. Possession of matter portraying a sex performance by minor is a Class-D felony with each count punishable by one to five years in prison. Distribution of obscene matter to minors, first offense is a Class-A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 12 months in jail.

McClain was taken to the Carroll County Detention Center to await his first court appearance.
