The Henrry County Relay For Life was cut short Friday night, but not before more than $80,000 was raised.
Diana Berry, Team Recruitment Chair, said the committee would look to reschedule at least portions of the event.
On Tuesday, Berry said the follow up will take place from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, July 19. The location has not yet been decided, but will be either at the Henry County Fairgrounds or Harry Hill Park.
That night, a team captain or Relay For Life team member will have the chance to win the big prize — a package including a two-night stay at the East Side Motel in Gatlinburg, two one-day Dollywood passes, two Memphis Aquarium passes and a $30 Friday’s gift card.
Berry said the prize is intended for a team captain or team member who attended Friday’s main event, but also signs in and stays at the follow up event.
Friday night’s event was called off just before the luminary ceremony was scheduled to begin due to severe weather rolling through the Midwest. That weather system produced strong winds and heavy rains, and generated tornado watches and warnings throughout the Kentuckiana region.
The 2008 edition of the Henry County Relay For Life started with pleasant weather and steady winds.
More than 30 teams gathered in the culminating event for the 2008 Relay For Life season.
Berry said that as of Monday, more than $80,000 had been raised, but that figure did not include money from luminary sales.
The follow up event also will include a hand held candle ceremony to end the night.
The location will be announced at a later date and published in the Local.
