Henry County Relay for Life chairman Marla Young still gets choked up months after 2009’s last luminaria was extinguished on the Henry County High School track.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I get worked up and excited.”
Young was overjoyed to report that despite the sluggish economy Relay for Life once again topped its goal. She said $95,608.31 was raised, exceeding the group’s $95,000 objective.
“Coming right on the heels of the Crusade for Children,” Young said, “we are just delighted.”
She said she believes one of the reasons for Relay’s sustained success in Henry County is the attitude of its residents. “Relay is a way of life for Henry County,” Young said, “not just an event.”
She said the organization already has begun receiving 2010 donations. “We’re already close to $1,000 for next year’s Relay,” Young said, “and Pleasureville Baptist Church held a yard sale (recently) for a fundraiser.”
She offered her thanks again to everyone for their efforts on behalf of the Relay for Life.
