Henry County Relay For Life Kick Off is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 23. The event will be held at the 4-H building at the Henry County Fairgrounds at 7 p.m. This year’s featured speaker will be Byron Crawford.
A native Kentuckian, Crawford grew up listening to some of the best storytellers in Central Kentucky. He now continues to pass along some of the most interesting stories of fellow Kentuckians through the venues of newspaper, magazine, television and public speeches. Growing up near the Hanging Fork of the Dix River in Lincoln County, Byron Garrison Crawford got to listen to some of the best storytellers in Central Kentucky. Now he himself is one of Kentucky’s most popular storytellers. While still a student at Stanford High School, Crawford got a job reading the news for the local radio station. He went on to study speech and broadcasting at Murray State University, then worked as a radio and television news reporter in Cincinnati and Louisville before joining the Courier-Journal in 1979. Crawford has been writing his “Kentucky Column” three times a week ever since. He also makes periodic guest appearances on KET’s Kentucky Afield, co-produced by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, where he tells still more stories about his native state.
