At times during Henry County High Schools Veterans Day Ceremony Friday morning, it was solemnly silent.
The ceremony began with an unusual sound in the large gym - that of bagpipes as the school's JROTC cadets filed in.
Larry Jeffries, who served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959, was attending his third ceremony.
"I can't get over how quiet they are," Jeffries said of the students watching the ceremony from the bleachers.
The ceremony, he said, helps to heal hurt feelings for "all the ones who are not here."
