The Henry County Sharpshooters hosted their first YHEC event May 9 when the Brewer Invitational was held at Steel Tech Range in Eminence. Thirty-one participants represented four counties, and once again, the Senior team won first place, while the Juniors won second in their division.
YHEC, the Youth Hunter Education Challenge sponsored by the NRA, tests the participants not only in shooting events, but also in safety and overall knowledge of hunting skills. Events at the Brewer Invitational were shotgun, muzzleloader, archery, safety trail, orienteering and hunter responsibility exam. It is considered the elite competition in shooting sports.
Colt McGuire moved up to the Senior division this season and finished as the high overall Senior. Henry County was well represented as many individual awards were won.
The next event for the YHEC team will be the Kentucky YHEC Championship held at Jabez on May 24 and 25. The Seniors will attempt to win for the third consecutive year.
