While the high school basketball season in Kentucky is just getting started, the football season will wrap up with state playoff championship games this weekend at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville.
In Class A action, Lexington Christian (11-3) and Beechwood (12-2) will play at 11:30 a.m. Friday, followed by Class 3-A Belfry (14-0) and Central (9-5) at 3:30 p.m., and Class 5-A Highlands (14-0) and Bowling Green (13-1) at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Class 2-A Newport Central Catholic (13-1) and Campbell (12-2) will play at 11:30 a.m., followed by Class 4-A Lexington Catholic (12-2) and Lone Oak (14-0) at 3:30 p.m. and the highly anticipated Class 6-A matchup between St. Xavier (14-0) and Trinity (12-2) at 7:30 p.m.
Frankfort, the squad that knocked Eminence High School out of the playoffs in opening round action, was defeated by Beechwood, 49-17, in the state semifinals last Friday.
Meanwhile, Paducah Tilghman, the squad that knocked Henry County out in third-round action, lost to Central, 17-14, in the semifinals as well.
This is the fist year of the new six-class alignment, opposed to the previous four classes.
General-admission tickets will be available at the gates for $10 for a single game, or $30 for all six games.
