Many thanks are due to the generous Henry County citizens who donated to the Special Olympics Polar Plunge, Saturday, Feb. 25.
“Scottie’s Team” was in loving memory of Scottie McCarty. Thanks to Magistrate Roger Hartlage’s donation of his bus and fuel, the eight jumpers stayed warm in light of jumping in the Ohio River in the snow. The commercial driver, John “Butch” Foree, graciously donated his pay back to the Special Olympics. Kentucky State Police Troopers Brad Auterburn, Evan Harrod II, Brody Jordee, Tim Moore, and Josh Noble, along with defense attorney Ben P. Coomes joined me and Special Olympian “Tee” Salinas in our jump.
The above donors, along with Harry and David Perry, Barbara Harrod, Georgia Harrod, Peggy and Cecil McCarty, and Darren Devans, made our first “Scottie’s Team” plunge a success. Each “plunger” had to raise or donate $75. The excess donations were divided between Kentucky’s Special Olympics and The Oldham County All-Stars team captained by Becky Reed Schmidt, formerly of Henry County. Her daughter Alex plays on the Special Olympics Team of Tee.
