The Henry County Wildcats’ boys and girls track teams competed in the North Central Kentucky Conference track meet on April 23 at Walton-Verona. The boys team finished second and the girls’ team finished third in the meet.

Coach Ben Chapman was pleased with the team’s performance. “I felt that all the athletes did extremely well and competed well,” he said. “I was very proud of everyone’s effort. We had multiple athletes come home with first place finishes; Destany Crawford in the 100-hurdles, Austin Armstrong in the shot put and the discus, Connor Finley in the 110-hurdles, Eddie Jones in the pole vault, Haley Lewis in the discus and Cameron Johnson in the triple jump.”

Eastern Relays

Eight Wildcat athletes qualified to compete in the Eastern Relays on Saturday. Cathryn Fischer came agonizingly close to setting personal records in the long jump and 300 meter hurdles. In the Long Jump Fischer had leap of 14-06.25, was just a 0.25” inches off her all-time best. In the 300-hurdles, Fischer finished in 52.29, just .03 seconds off her best time.

Eddie Jones equaled his personal best in the pole vault with a height of 11-0.

“It was honor for those to kids to qualify for such a prestigious event,” Champman said. “Cathryn And Eddie nearly set Personal records which shows their ability to perform on the big stage. This is good experience at the venue that will host the state meet.”

Coach Floyd Miller said, “Three seniors, Haley Lewis, Austin Armstrong and Cole Nelson were able to step up their performance this year and qualify which is a testament to how hard they have worked.”
